Spiral Plate Heat Exchanger

LHE’s Spiral Plate Heat Exchanger offers stable performance and longer uptime in your most challenging processes — from vicious fluids and slurries to vacuum condensation.

LHE-Spiral-Hero-1

Built for applications where other exchangers clog or fail, the LHE Spiral Plate Heat Exchanger combines efficient heat transfer with a self-cleaning design. Its automated edge-flatness system guarantees uniform channel geometry and reliable performance.

Tailored channels for precise thermal performance

The Spiral Plate Heat Exchanger consists of two spiral-shaped channels, separated by welded spacer pins. This creates a compact, high-efficiency flow path that handles demanding fluids, pressure drops, or particle loads with ease.

We tailor the channel width, pitch, and gap spacing to your exact operating conditions and requirements, so that you get reliable thermal performance with minimal maintenance.

Spiral types and principles

Type 1: Cross-welded for liquid and light vapor

Built for liquid–liquid applications or light vapor condensation, the type 1 heat exchanger features cross-welded spiral channels. Each fluid stream is welded to opposite sides of the spiral body, and flat covers are mounted on both sides to enclose the unit.

  • Operates vertically when used for vapor, gas, or two-phase flows.

  • Standard flow direction is counter-current, but co-current flow can be applied depending on the system.

  • Designed for compact, high-efficiency heat exchange with stable thermal performance.

Type 2: Cross-flow for condensation and evaporation

Type 2 Spiral Plate Heat Exchangers use a cross-flow configuration, where one fluid flows across the spiral body from one side to the other. Both channel sides are left open to support this crosswise movement.

  • Designed with a larger cross-sectional area than Type 1

  • Well suited for condensation, evaporation, and phase-change duties

  • Optional vent and drain connections can be added to the top and bottom covers for efficient media handling

Why choose the Spiral for your application

High efficiency at any flow

The spiral design promotes turbulence across the entire flow — delivering high heat transfer coefficients even at low velocities.

Self-cleaning performance

When fouling starts, local flow velocity increases, creating a natural scrubbing effect. This helps maintain performance and extend cleaning intervals.

Compact, space-saving design

Thanks to its compact footprint and vertical installation, the Spiral Plate Heat Exchanger saves space compared to traditional shell-and-tube units.

Minimal temperature difference

The true counter-current flow (in Type 1) enables highly efficient thermal transfer, even with small temperature gaps between media.

Easy access for maintenance

Both end covers are removable, allowing for fast, straightforward inspection and service — even in tough industrial environments.
